Recorded live at a Bowie Celebration last week, Yungblud has released a cover of ‘Life On Mars?’ as his latest single.

Real name Dominic Harrison, the singer Yungblud performed the track at ‘A Bowie Celebration: Just One More Day!’ in commemoration of the late David Bowie’s 74th birthday alongside a star studded line-up, including Duran Duran, Corey Taylor and Taylor Hawkins.

“the singer’s rendition was also played during the landing of Nasa’s Perseverance Rover on Mars last month.”

Speaking about the inspiration behind his second album Weird! to The Sun, Harrison explained how David Bowie’s Life On Mars “directly influenced it” and ultimately was a nod to the late singer himself.

“There’s a song called ‘Mars’ which is important to me ’cause I had a trans man come up to me and say my track ‘Kill Somebody’ last year helped his parents with the community he wanted to be in… He told me about his story, about how nobody understood him, and it clicked with me because it reminded me of ‘Life On Mars’ by David Bowie –  so I’m paying homage to that.”

In addition to this performance, the singer’s rendition was also played during the landing of Nasa’s Perseverance Rover on Mars last month.

Unlike his typical alternative pop tracks such as ‘Parents’ and ‘Cotton Candy,’ Yungblud’s cover of ‘Life On Mars’ presents a raw, stripped back version of the singer, unlike anything we’ve seen before. And with hints of new music and projects coming soon, we could see more of this style from the talented singer soon.
