The days may be starting to get longer and brighter, but it’s not time to say goodbye to winter just yet. Across the country we’ve seen a lot of snow recently and the temperature isn’t getting any warmer, so knowing how to dress to accommodate for the weather is more important than ever.

I’m sure you’re just as relieved as I am to know layering is still in style this year. Towards the end of 2020 we saw knitted vests claim one of the top spots among the trendiest items – those who went out on a whim and built a large collection of knitted vests will be pleased to hear they’ve not disappeared from the fashion scene just yet. Although knitted vests with v-shaped necklines stole the show, those with a roll neck are ideal for the current climate. Layering them with a jumper beneath will leave you feeling just as warm as you were at the start of your winter walk. Don’t let the cold temperatures deter you from getting your daily exercise as layering has you covered.

Everyone either has this next item, or knows someone who owns one. It appears to be very difficult to get your hands on one at the moment, so if you were ahead of the trends and already purchased it, consider yourself one of the lucky ones. If you hadn’t already guessed, it’s the North Face puffer jacket. All puffer jackets have remained in style and are a wardrobe staple, but there seems to be something about the North Face jackets that set them apart from the rest. Maybe it’s because they jumped on the bandwagon and produced it in a brown colourway? They cleverly realised that’d be the way to most people’s hearts and shopping bags. There’s no denying it’s the colour of the season, and let’s hope it stays that way as it didn’t take long for people to fill their wardrobes with brown clothing. Regardless of whether your puffer jacket has got a North Face logo on it, be sure to get as much wear out of it as possible before the cold weather disappears.

It’s time for your chunky boots to have their moment. If you didn’t wear them in over the Christmas holidays ready to strut your stuff in January, you missed a trick – I’m looking at everyone who was gifted a pair of Doc Marten boots for Christmas and praying for your poor feet. The last thing you want is to slip over on the ice, so having a sturdy, yet stylish, boot with grip is important. If you don’t have a pair of boots, wellies have made a comeback. I don’t know about you, but I used to despise wearing wellies because they weren’t considered trendy. But now I can’t get enough – and we have Molly-Mae Hague to thank for that, as she’s been pictured in her khaki green pair over on Instagram.

It’s very easy to look towards summer and wish away the remainder of the winter months, but surely you want to make the most of your winter wardrobe before it’s too late? Dig out your knitted vest, puffer jacket and chunky boots and you’re good to go.
