Chupa (2023)

This fantasy adventure movie is about a teenager who grew up in Kansas City and flew to Mexico to appreciate his culture and heritage. His trip led him to a groundbreaking discovery in his grandfather’s shed — a mythical monster.

Pair Chupa With Candy Bucket Cookies

These cookies made of chocolate candies and other delicious treats are sure to make your movie night more enjoyable. They’re easy to create, fun to eat and delicious — what’s there not to love?

Ingredients:

  • Chocolate-based candies
  • 1/3 cup white sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • A pinch of salt
  • 1/2 cup melted butter
  • An egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda

Instructions:

  1. Sift flour, baking soda and salt in a bowl. Mix well.
  2. Mix melted butter and sugars in a separate bowl. Beat and mix well until the color turns light.
  3. Add egg and vanilla extract. Mix well.
  4. Fold in the flour mixture and add the candies. Chop up larger candies into small pieces.
  5. Let the cookie dough rest for 30 minutes in the fridge.
  6. Preheat the oven to 350° F, then line your baking sheet with parchment paper.
  7. Divide dough into 12 pieces and spread them out on the baking sheet evenly.
  8. Bake for about 12 to 15 minutes.
  9. Let the cookies cool before eating them.

Coco (2017)

This Disney film is about Dia de Muertos — The Day of the Dead — and how a 12-year-old kid named Miguel accidentally found himself in the Land of the Dead. He’s a dreamer and wishes his family — both living and deceased — to support his ambition of becoming a musician.

Pair Coco With Ghost S’mores Dip

Join the protagonist as he wanders the land of ghosts with a plate of ghost s’mores Dip. The kids will love this treat, trust me.

Ingredients: 

  • One bag of ghost marshmallows
  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/4 cup warmed heavy cream
  • Mini chocolate chips
  • Graham crackers

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 450° Fahrenheit. Get a 9-inch baking or pie dish, then put chocolate chips and cream on top. Cover everything with ghost marshmallows.
  2. Use mini chocolate chips to design eyes and mouths.
  3. Bake for eight to 10 minutes, or until chocolate melts and the ghosts turn golden brown.

Once the kids have tuckered themselves out, it’s time to host a movie night exclusively for adults. Here are a few movie options, plus the perfect snacks to go with them.

The Babadook (2014)

This movie follows a widowed single mother and her son, and how a scary book titled “Mister Babadook” manifested in their lives.

Let black cats bring fun to your movie night with this easy-to-prep black cat cookies recipe.

Ingredients:

  • Sugar cookie dough
  • Cocoa cookie dough
  • Icing
  • Vodka
  • Silver-black lustre dust

Instructions:

  1. Get your cookie dough ready. Use flour-coated circle cutters and cut out circles from sugar cookie dough. Then, cut some cat shapes from the black cocoa cookie dough using a cat cutter.
  2. Decorate your sugar cookies with icing. Place the cat cookies on the top.
  3. Mix some vodka with silver-black lustre dust. Use a small paintbrush to create small brushstrokes on the royal icing of the cookies.

Only Lovers Left Alive (2013)

Indulge in the story of a married vampire couple and follow their journey as they sustain themselves without hurting living things.

Pair Only Lovers Left Alive With Stuffed Mushroom Eyeballs

How about a movie night snack with a vegan twist? These mushroom eyeballs are guaranteed to be a huge hit with your friends.

Ingredients:

  • 18 ounces cremini mushrooms
  • 14 ounces extra-firm tofu
  • A clove of garlic
  • 2 teaspoons lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 2 1/2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons julienne-cut sun-dried tomatoes
  • 2 1/2 ounces sliced black olives

Instructions:

  1. Clean the mushroom caps and remove the stems. Place on a baking sheet.
  2. Puree the garlic, lemon juice, tofu, salt, Italian seasoning, black pepper and onion powder in a food processor. Place the mixture into a piping back with a circle tip.
  3. Preheat the oven to 350º F and drizzle some balsamic vinegar on each mushroom.
  4. Pipe the tofu mixture into each mushroom cap and create a small mound.
  5. Chiffonade cut sun-dried tomatoes and place them on stuffed mushrooms. Top it off with a slice of olive.
  6. Bake the mushrooms for 10 to 15 minutes or until the caps slightly wrinkle.
