Indie-rock band, boygenius, have released the fourth track of their upcoming album the record, which is set out to be fully released on March 31st.

Collaborative Song

“a perfect blend of all three singers’ styles and voices”

In comparison to the three tracks released last month, not strong enough is a perfect blend of all three singers’ styles and voices. All members (Julien Baker, Phoebe Bridgers, and Lucy Dacus) have a part to play in the collaborative song, which is perfectly designed to complement each of their voices. It sets listeners up for how the three work magically together.

Releasing not strong enough fourth was a demonstration of clever marketing tools. The first three tracks drew in each of the singers’ individual fanbases. Now that listeners are hooked on the trio, they have released the soft, upbeat, acoustic track with an accompanying music video, to showcase their power as one.

‘Gut-Wrenching Lyricism’

Following the gut-wrenching lyricism the three are known for, not strong enough illustrates the feeling of not being good enough or too messed up to be in a relationship. In an interview with Rolling Stone, Bridgers explains that the track takes on all three of the singers’ interpretation of not being “the partner that you want me to be.”

Music Video

Although the lyrics of the track make you question yourself, the band’s music video makes us almost forget how painful the message behind the track is.

“no matter how bad things are, there’s always a brighter side to life”

The music video takes us on a trip with the three as they have a fun, carefree trip to the beach and amusement parks. It highlights the trio’s friendship and outlook on life: no matter how bad things are, there’s always a brighter side to life.

boygenius are set to tour the UK this summer, with special guests Ethel Cain, and Muna. From the 20th to the 23rd of August, they will hit some of England’s biggest venues: Gunnersbry Park in London and The Piece Hall in Halifax. We’re excited to see the trio live and for their album on the 31st of March.
