Nature flourishes, the sun stays out longer, the weather is warmer – spring is on its way again. After what has felt like an incredibly bleak winter, it is finally time to look forward with a spring in your step as the seasons change. While the world around us blooms into colour, spring is the ideal time to allow yourself to bloom as well.

Catch some rays

Spring means the clocks change, the daylight hours increase, and you can finally ditch your winter coat and all the extra layers of clothing! Once the jet lag effect of daylight saving wears off, the benefits brought by the longer days are endless. It’s a great time for getting out of the house and blowing all the cobwebs off. Going for a short walk is much more enjoyable without rain and hailstones all the time.

Getting outside also is beneficial to your physical and mental health – it allows you to get active, have a change of scenery and catch up on the vitamin D that you missed over winter months. Socially, this is a great season to get together with your friends. The slightly warmer weather is perfect for a picnic, or even a trip to the beer garden! Whilst these activities are all ones that you can do outside of spring, the climate around us makes this all the more enjoyable.

Self-growth

As you can start to spend more time outdoors, take a look at the nature that surrounds you. If it’s a field, some trees, flowers in the window of a stranger – you usually don’t have to look far to see new growth in spring. Surrounded by all this growth and colour truly enables us to look in on our own lives, and see where you can enable yourself to grow. It also allows space for the narrative that as humans we should treat ourselves with care, and tend to ourselves and our needs regularly.

Spring cleaning

The term ‘spring cleaning’ is thrown around a lot at this time of year, as many people choose to freshen up their spaces. While cleaning up physically is good, it’s certainly easier said than done. Spending some time to de-clutter, even on a small scale, can do wonders for your well-being this spring. Be that in the form of organising your calendar, workspace, desktop, or rather deep cleaning your room or other living spaces: it’s up to you. But to take a moment and add some fresh organisation into your life is some of the best seasonal self-care you can do throughout springtime.

Overall, there are so many great things you can look forward to this spring, as you put the cold and dreary winter months behind you. Remember to be kind to yourself as the season shifts, and always put yourself first, whatever the weather. Allow yourself to bloom like the daffodils that line the streets – brighter days are on their way.
