Dear Covid-19,

Thank you. Thank you so much for everything you have done for me, my family and the wider population.

Without you, we would not have had Joe Wicks keeping our country fit and ready for anything. Without you, we would not have channelled our inner Mary Berry, baking up those Instagram worthy banana breads.

They say that distance makes the heart grow fonder. Well Covid-19, you really did make this statement true, with you creating a barrier between myself and most of my elderly family. Even when I did have the chance to see them (in a socially distanced setting of course), that 2 metre distance between myself and my grandmother truly did wonders for our conversation – especially when she had forgotten to put her hearing aids in.

Of course, my dear Coronavirus, you only want what is best for us. So seeing that being outside, frolicking in the field, does wonders for the mind and soul, you made that the only option for us to meet with other people outside of our bubble. How lovely and thoughtful of you! Especially when the British summertime exercises its classic British activities of rain, cloud and more rain, it leaves us with so many opportunities! Who doesn’t love a picnic in the pouring rain!

Now, how can we forget about your impact on education?

As a University student, nothing delighted me more than hearing about how you, Corona-virus, allowed me to still pay £9,250 worth of fees, when all my lectures become online! Just like I intended of course, sitting my exams from the comfort of my desk, nothing like the focused and exam prepped hall I was supposed to sit them in. Nothing gets me more motivated than the thought that I can make myself a meal, hoover my room and call my friends during my exam. You really brought the best out of me and my essays, I am sure my grades and motivation truly would have suffered without you. In fact, your presence is still growing, for you have also wriggled your way into my first term of third year as well! It was not like I wanted to go clubbing, or the pub, or to visit another household anyway. Always making sure I am staying in and doing my dissertation instead of having fun – you really do treat me.

As a 20 year old, wanting to remain en-vogue, you redefined fashion, bringing the face mask as the new hottest accessory of the year.

Who needs rings and necklaces anymore, when you can have a face mask to truly accentuate your outfit. Of course, everyone is wearing them. Absolutely everyone. Yes, definitely everyone.

Thanks for the impact you have had Corona-virus. I do not know how else I would have spent 2020 without you.

Many thanks,
