The historic London venue, Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre, has announced a dazzling new programme for summer 2023!

Confirmed Viewings at Regent’s Park

“promises a narrative of romance and adventure”

The season opens with Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty’s award-winning musical Once On This Island (10 May – 10 June), which is to be directed by Ola Ince. Based on the Caribbean-set reimagining of Hans Christian Anderson’s The Little Mermaid in Rosa Guy’s 1985 novel My Love, My Love; or, The Peasant Girl, the performance promises a narrative of romance and adventure peppered with breath-taking dance sequences.

This will be followed by performances of Carl Grose’s Robin Hood: The Legend. Re-written (17 June – 22 July), directed by Melly Still. The final adult play on the bill is farcical musical romp La Cage aux Folles (29 July – 16 September), directed by Timothy Sheader. La Cage aux Folles dramatizes the comedic culture clash between a flamboyant homosexual couple and their son’s ultra-conservative prospective in-laws.

“three exciting new performances for children”

Additionally, the programme boasts three exciting new performances for children. For those under six, the theatre is showing The Tempest: Reimagined (30 June – 22 July), which has been revised and directed by Jennifer Tang in a co-production with the Unicorn Theatre. Chinonyerem Odimba’s adaption of Ben Okri’s environmental fairy tale Every Leaf a Hallelujah will be playing between 22 May and 10 June.

Finally, between 11 August and 3 September audiences can catch Nicoll Entertainment’s Dinosaur World Live, written and directed by Derek Bond.

Inclusivity

There will be performances with captions, BSL accompaniment and audio description to widen audience access for the entire adult programme. There will also be BSL performances of the children’s programme and a relaxed showing of The Tempest: Reimagined.

Priority booking is now open to members, and tickets will be available to the public here from 11am, Tuesday 8 November.
