“The room where it happens” is finally on the road. Lin-Manuel Miranda’s smash hit musical Hamilton is set to embark on its first UK tour. Starting later this year, the tour will kick off in November with a 15 week run in Manchester, before heading to Edinburgh in February 2024. Further venues and dates are to be announced.

A Hip-Hop History Musical

Hamilton first premiered on Broadway back in 2015, to critical and popular acclaim. It has since won numerous honours, including the Pulitzer Prize for Drama and 11 Tony Awards. Its London production, which opened in 2017 at the Victoria Palace Theatre, also swept the Olivier Awards, taking seven titles.

The lively hip-hop musical tells the story of the rise and fall of Alexander Hamilton, one of America’s founding fathers. It includes popular numbers such as My Shot, The Schuyler Sisters and You’ll Be Back.

“revolutionary for its exhilarating blend of genres such as rap, hip-hop and jazz”

Critics hailed Hamilton as “brilliantly inventive” and revolutionary for its exhilarating blend of genres such as rap, hip-hop and jazz. Together, these conjured a fresh and vibrant new take on American history. Miranda has described his brainchild as “a story of America then, told by America now”.

Touring To The ‘Greatest Cities In The World’

The show’s UK producer, Cameron Mackintosh said: “Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Hamilton is indisputably the most brilliant, ground-breaking, contemporary musical of modern times. I feel extraordinarily fortunate that Lin and my friend Jeffrey Seller, the show’s original producer, have entrusted me with their wonderful musical in the UK and Ireland.”

“it is time to put together a second British national touring company to bring this great show to our leading cities”

“The London production opened in 2017 at the Victoria Palace, a theatre I completely rebuilt to house Hamilton, where it continues to play and has proved to be as big a success as the Broadway original. So, I am thrilled that it is time to put together a second British national touring company to bring this great show to our leading cities.”

Casting for the show is underway, and will be revealed later in the year.

New Audiences

Since its debut, Hamilton has enthralled around the world, engaging die-hard fans and new audiences alike with musical theatre. Despite past controversy over unaffordable ticket prices, the show has been widely popularised by its Original Broadway Cast Recording and The Hamilton Mixtape album.

“accessible to a global audience”

More recently, a pro-shot film of the stage production was released on Disney+, making Hamilton accessible to a global audience. After all this anticipation, UK fans who haven’t yet seen the musical live will soon be thrilled to find themselves in “the room where it happens”.

So, don’t throw away your shot – catch Hamilton at a theatre near you. You can guarantee the atmosphere will be electric.

Hamilton runs at the Palace Theatre, Manchester from 11th November 2023 and the Festival Theatre, Edinburgh from 28th February 2024. Tickets go on sale from Monday 13th March. You can sign up for updates and priority booking here.
