The 2023/2024 Champions League has already seen brilliant matches and huge losses. With the Round of 16 on its way, the tournament will only bring more excitement to the pitch.

Here is a quick recap of what happened during the Champions League group stages:

Group A

Group A consisted of Bayern Munich, Copenhagen, Galatasaray and Manchester United — who faced off for a spot in the Round of 16.

Bayern won the group after earning 16 points, immediately advancing to the Round of 16. The team earned five match wins, one draw and 12 goals. Bayern has yet to lose a match during the Champions League.

Copenhagen were the runners-up and therefore also advanced. They earned eight points after winning two games, drawing two and losing two. They scored eight goals in total.

Galatasaray and Manchester United were unlucky and missed out on a prestigious spot in the final 16. Galatasaray finished third with five points after earning one win, two draws and three losses. They scored 10 goals.

Manchester United placed last in Group A following a humbling defeat. They walk away with four points after one win, one draw, four losses and 12 goals.

Group B

Arsenal, PSV Eindhoven, RC Lens and Sevilla all played in Group B for a place in the Round of 16.

Gunners fans rejoiced as Arsenal took the top spot with 13 points. They won four games, drew one and lost one — scoring 16 goals. Their brilliant group stage win earned them a place in the next round.

PSV Eindhoven took second place with a decent score of nine points. They earned two match wins, three draws and one loss, scoring eight goals. PSV ultimately join Arsenal in the esteemed Round of 16.

Despite a respectable effort, RC Lens and Sevilla failed to reach the next round. RC Lens earned eight points, with two match wins, two draws and two losses. They scored a total of six goals.

Sevilla fell incredibly short during the group stage. They walk away from the Champions League with only two points and no wins. They drew two games, lost four and scored seven goals.

Group C

Real Madrid, Napoli, Braga and FC Union Berlin took to the pitch in Group C.

Real Madrid played flawlessly as they took the top spot with 18 points. They walk into the Round of 16 with six match wins, after winning all the matches in their group. They scored 16 goals.

Napoli were the runners-up in Group C. With three wins, one draw and two losses, they follow Real Madrid into the final 16.

FC Union Berlin and Braga put up a good fight, but it was not enough to get through. Braga finished third with four points and one match win/draw. They faced four defeats and scored six goals.

Group D

Real Sociedad, Inter Milan, Benfica and Red Bull Salzburg faced off in Group D and brought tight competition to the pitch.

Inter Milan and Real Sociedad enter the Round of 16 after ferocious performances in the group stages. Both teams earned 12 points after winning and drawing three games.

It was the end of the road for Benfica and Red Bull Salzburg after a demeaning defeat in Group D. Both teams walk away from the Champions League with four points.

Group E

Atletico Madrid, Lazio, Feyenoord and Celtic faced off in Group E with commendable performances.

Atletico Madrid took the top spot in Group E after an impressive performance, earning 14 points. They walk into the Round of 16 with four wins and two draws, having yet to lose a match. Lazio took the runner-up spot with ten points, three wins, one draw and two losses.

Feyenoord and Celtic played an honourable game, but not enough to earn a place in the next round. Feyenoord placed third with six points after two wins and four losses.

Celtic earned four points after a single win and draw. Despite four losses, Scotland should still be proud and commend Celtic for playing against such strong teams.

Group F

Group F saw valiant performances from Borussia Dortmund, Paris Saint-Germain, AC Milan and Newcastle United.

Borussia Dortmund won the group stage with eleven points after a stunning performance on the pitch. After scoring seven goals, they bring stellar competition to the final 16.

Paris Saint-Germain follow Borussia Dortmund into the next round with eight points. After a tight performance in the group stage, they bring a total of two wins, two draws and two losses.

AC Milan and Newcastle United played a respectable game, but their stronger opponents eliminated them from the tournament. AC Milan walk away with eight points, two wins, two draws and two losses. Despite tying with Paris Saint-Germain, they tragically fell short on goals but put up a decent fight until the end.

Newcastle United left the Champions League with five points after placing last in the group. With only one win, two draws, and three losses, their performance was nowhere near enough to place them in the top two.

Group G

Crvena Zvezda, Manchester City, RB Leipzig and BSC Young Boys all faced off in Group G.

Manchester City dominated the group with prevailing performances on the pitch. They won with 18 points after a successful winning sweep, scoring 18 goals.

RB Leipzig took the runner-up spot in with 12 points after winning four games and losing two. They scored 13 goals with valiant performances.

BSC Young Boys and Crvena Zvezda both failed to reach the final 16. BSC Young Boys earned four points, one draw and four losses after a challenging tournament. Crvena Zvezda suffered five humiliating losses. The team must now return home and re-evaluate their performance.

Group H

Barcelona, FC Porto, Shakhtar Donetsk and Antwerp played in the final group stage.

Barcelona topped Group H with 12 points, four wins and two losses. FC Porto and Barcelona tied with 12 points, but ultimately took second place with four wins, two losses and 10 goals. After a commendable performance, they are the final team to join the Round of 16.

Shakhtar Donetsk and Antwerp were the last two teams to head home. Shakhtar Donetsk scored nine points, with Antwerp taking last place after a difficult tournament.

The Round of 16

Following the conclusion of the group stages, the Round of 16 matches will commence in February and March.

Copenhagen will face off against Manchester United, while RB Leipzig take on Real Madrid. Paris Saint-Germain will face Real Sociedad, with Lazio playing against Bayern.

Inter Milan will take on Atletico de Madrid. PSV Eindhoven will face Borussia Dortmund in the two legs. Arsenal and FC Porto will face off, with Napoli and Barcelona having a showdown on the pitch.

The Champions League final will take place on 1 June 2024.
