Dearest readers, Bridgerton is returning for a second series and although there may be spoilers ahead, here’s what we know so far.

As the ton prepares for the latest social season, you are cordially invited to witness another Bridgerton sibling “dominate the social season”.

In a letter shared on social media Lady Whistledown pens “Bridgerton shall officially return for a second season”, announcing that “[t]he incomparable cast of Bridgerton will return to production in the Spring of 2021. This author has been reliably informed that Lord Anthony Bridgerton intends to dominate the social season.”

Series one focused on Julia Quinn’s first novel, The Duke and I, which follows the romance of Daphne Bridgerton and Simon Hastings. However, series two will depict Quinn’s second novel, The Viscount Who Loved Me?, following the season of Jonathan Bailey’s character, the tumultuous Anthony Bridgerton.

The synopsis of Quinn’s next book reads as follows, “Anthony Bridgerton hasn’t just decided to marry – he’s even chosen a wife! The only obstacle is his intended’s older sister, Kate Sheffield – the most meddlesome woman ever to grace a London ballroom. The spirited schemer is driving Anthony mad with her determination to stop the betrothal, but when he closes his eyes at night, Kate is the woman haunting his increasingly erotic dreams.”

Upon the announcement of a second series, Jonathan Bailey shared his thoughts on the character and his development in the second novel: “Much like Daphne, he’s really been failed by the society in which he lives. And there’s a real humanity to him, too, that will hopefully come out in the next series.”

“there will be plenty of scandals to keep Lady Whistledown busy.”

Undoubtedly the new series will be packed with even more twists and turns, after Lord Bridgerton’s lust for opera singer Siena, it’s time for him to settle down and find a wife to produce a Bridgerton heir. What we can hope for in the next series is even more drama, more scenes in the rain and a soundtrack to fall in love with.

We know the series will feature a lot of romance, and what we can also guarantee is there will be plenty of scandals to keep Lady Whistledown busy.

The show produced by Shondaland for Netflix first debuted on our screens on Christmas Day and has since been played in over 82 million households. In an interview with Collider showrunner, Chris Van Dusen shared his hopes for the rest of Quinn’s novels: “I feel like the first season was primarily about Daphne and her love story with Simon. But, this being a family of eight children and there being eight books, I would love to be able to focus and really tell stories and love stories for all the Bridgerton siblings.”

Although we don’t know exactly when the show will return, we can expect even more romance and raunchiness.
