Mozambique has been subjected to a number of attacks that have been claimed by ISIS.
Mozambique, located on the southeast coast of Africa, has been fighting ISIS militants since 2017, yet have so far been unsuccessful.
Last week, port town Palma came under attack after Islamist extremists invaded the town.
It was reported that this attack killed 55 innocent people, including security forces and Christians.
Amongst the dead, a British man, Philip Mawer, was identified.
Following the brutality in Palma, survivors have moved into surrounding ports for safety.
It was also been recently reported that children as young as 11 are now being targeted by the extremists.
The violent attacks that they are victim to have been reported by Save the Children.
When speaking to the families of victims, Save the Children reported they had witnessed ‘horrific scenes’.
Following these inhumane attacks, the UN has stepped in to provide displaced families with basic supplies including food rations and blankets.
The violence in Mozambique began in 2017. Since then, it has been reported that at least 2500 people have been killed as a result of ISIS militants.
The extremist motives for the attacks remain unknown.
