The Covid-19 ‘Lockdown Influencers’: Instagram Accounts that are Bringing a Touch of Reality to the Often-Distorted World of Social Media

The coronavirus pandemic has seen an increase in the numbers of people turning to online advice, education or resources. This has encouraged a surge in online, lockdown influencers, looking to engage and inspire the digital sphere.

“I spoke with them virtually to find out why they created their accounts”

I spoke with some of these ‘Lockdown Influencers’ who have created social media accounts that are dedicated to motivating and inspiring others through their commitment to portraying the ‘real’, an often lost concept in the world of the internet. Lucy and Iona have accounts on Instagram that cover positive habits such as reading, journaling, fitness advice and ‘real’ body images, respectively. I spoke with them virtually to find out why they created their accounts, and why they believe it is important for accounts like theirs to exist, especially now.
