The 77th Primetime Emmy Awards, which took place on 15th September 2025, saw celebrity reunions, big wins and new records.

Adolescence (2025)

The British Netflix Original Adolescence swept every category it was nominated in, making it one of the biggest stories of the night.

Stephen Graham took the award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie – and made an emotional speech referencing his upbringing and heritage.

Also for Adolescence, both Owen Cooper and Erin Doherty took the Outstanding Supporting Actor/Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie.

Cooper’s win marks him as the youngest male actor to win an Emmy Award.

The show won three other awards, including Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series or Movie.

The Late Show with Stephen Colbert (2015-2026)

Another highlight from the night was the moment Stephen Colbert won for Outstanding Talk Series.

Following the recent cancellation of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert after eleven seasons, his win was symbolic of his enduring charisma.

Receiving an standing ovation, the support from Colbert’s colleagues was a testament to how loved he is, and a protest against the unjust cancellation of his late show.

The Studio (2025)

With such a stacked category, it was hard to say who would take the award for Outstanding Comedy Series.

Despite being up against previous winners such as The Bear (2022) and Hacks (2021), as well as repeat nominees Abbott Elementary (2021) and Only Murders in the Building (2021), it was The Studio which came out on top.

“Shockingly, the awards snubbed fan favourites The Bear, Abbott Elementary, and Only Murders in the Building this year in favour of some newer shows.”

The Studio’s first season has been praised for its humour and satire of the entertainment industry.

Creator and lead actor of the show, Seth Rogen, also won for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series, and tied for the most Emmys won individually in a single night. Also marking his first Emmy wins.

The Pitt (2025)

Medical drama The Pitt beat out The Last of Us (2023), Severance (2022), and The White Lotus (2021) for Outstanding Drama Series.

Critics have acclaimed the HBO show for its unique take on hospital life, as the first fifteen-episode season unfolds over a single day.

“After The Pitt beat Severance for Outstanding Drama Series, Severance still won in the Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series category.”

Noah Wyle, playing Dr. Michael Robinavitch, took home the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for his work on the show, and Katherine LaNassa won Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series.

Overall, The Pitt took home five Emmys out of its thirteen nominations.

Standout Speeches

Hannah Einbinder of Hacks took to the stage to accept the award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series and ended her speech shouting:

“Go Birds, fuck ICE, and free Palestine”.

This exclamation comes just a week after Einbinder joined thousands in the film industry vowing not to work with Israeli film institutions.

Her speech was one of many references to the Israel-Palestine War throughout the night.

“Additionally, other highlights from the night included the controversial moment when host Nate Bargatzi pledged $100,000 to the Boys and Girls Club of North America.”

Other standout moments include Javier Bardem wearing a Palestinian keffiyeh on the red carpet, and Megan Salter’s casual outfit topped off with ‘ceasefire!’ written on her handbag.

After The Pitt beat Severance for Outstanding Drama Series, Severance still won in the Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series category.

Tramelli Tillman, the first black man to ever win in this category, gave an emotional speech to accept the award.

He dedicated it to his mother, whom he named his ‘first acting coach’, and the other black actors who had previously been in the category.

Other Highlights

Additionally, other highlights from the night included the controversial moment when host Nate Bargatzi pledged $100,000 to the Boys and Girls Club of North America.

However, the catch was that the pledge would lose $1,000 for every second an acceptance speech went over.

Meanwhile, the 77th Emmys also provided a Gilmore Girls (2000) reunion when Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel presented The Studio with the award for Outstanding Writing in a Comedy Series.

Appearing together on stage, the pair reflected on the beloved show ahead of its 25th anniversary this October.

Shockingly, the awards snubbed fan favourites The Bear, Abbott Elementary, and Only Murders in the Building this year in favour of some newer shows.

Overall, the 77th Emmys were one full of surprise winners, heartfelt speeches, and surprisingly few political moments.
